1 〔切れ味などが悪い〕 blunt 《sword》.

●この包丁は切れが鈍い. This (kitchen) knife is blunt [won't cut].

2 〔ぼんやりしている〕 (光が) dim; (つやなどが) mat(t); (音が) dull; muffled.

●霧灯の鈍い光線 the dim beam of a foglight

・銀色の鈍い光沢 a soft silvery sheen

・鈍いモーター音 the dull sound of a motor.

●ドスンという人が倒れるような鈍い音がした. There was a muffled thump of someone falling over.

3 〔感覚などが敏感でない〕 dull; slow; thick; dense; lame-brained; thick-headed[-skulled]; weak-headed; slow-[dull-]witted.

●婉曲な言い回しでは気がつかないほど神経の鈍い人 a person so thick-skinned that he would not recognize a gentle hint

鈍くなる ＝にぶる.

●酔うとたいていの人は頭の回転が鈍くなる. Getting drunk dulls the senses [muddles the brains] of most people.

・この包丁はだいぶ切れ味が鈍くなっている. This knife is pretty blunt.

・それを聞いて質問者の舌鋒が急に鈍くなった. On hearing that, the questioner suddenly relaxed his attack [had the wind taken out of his sails].

・水温が下がると魚の動きが鈍くなる. As the water temperature declines, the fish become less active [fishes' movements slow down].

・地価の下落速度がやや鈍くなってきた. The slump in land prices has slackened slightly.

・彼は頭の回転がのろい. His brain works slowly.

・彼は走るのがのろい. He's a very slow runner [no good at running]. | He runs very slowly.

・あいつはまったく動作がカメのようにのろいなあ. He takes an age to do anything. | Whatever he does, he's a terrible slow coach [regular tortoise]!
